The ‘Young Seniors’ Cycling Expedition: In December 2022, a group of senior citizens known as the ‘Young Seniors’ embarked on a 40-day cycling expedition from Koteshwar, Gujarat, to Kibithu, Arunachal Pradesh.

Dr. Deepak Kulkarni’s Involvement: Dr. Deepak Kulkarni, a 69-year-old maxillofacial and oral surgeon, joined the ‘Young Seniors’ group for the final 10 days of their journey.

Discovery of Muskan: During their visit to Swami Vivekananda Kendra Vidyalaya at Sunpura on the Assam-Arunachal Pradesh border, Dr. Deepak noticed a 10-year-old girl named Muskan, who had a neck deformity called torticollis.

Recognizing the Treatable Condition: Dr. Deepak, with his previous experience in treating similar deformities, recognized that Muskan’s condition was treatable.

Offer of Help: Dr. Deepak offered to help Muskan and her family by arranging for her to receive free treatment from Dr. Parag Sahasrabudhe, a plastic surgeon in Pune.

Muskan’s Journey to Pune: Muskan’s family eventually contacted Dr. Deepak, and they traveled to Pune in April for the surgery.

Successful Surgery: The surgery was successful, and Muskan’s condition improved, allowing her to regain a normal posture.

Gratitude and Celebration: The ‘Young Seniors’ group, deeply touched by Dr. Deepak’s act of kindness, hosted a tea party to express their gratitude to him and celebrate Muskan’s recovery.

Dr. Deepak’s Perspective: Dr. Deepak emphasizes that the sequence of events leading to Muskan’s treatment felt like destiny, and he is elated to have been able to help her lead a normal life.
